High-Heeled Sunday

Appendix A.

GAMBAN PEEPS. Gamban is a street in Tondo Manila. A friend of mine lives there and her house is like the permanent witness of our growing up. We started going there in high school uniforms –all girls. As years passed we went to college, somehow we surprised it by the sudden variation of uniforms. Even surprised it when one after another, we were coming with partners. It adjusted very well and welcomed every difference that came in. Of course, one day we came just off from college and on to the industry. There were a lot of memories in there—from after-class sessions to birthdays, overnights, Graduations, Christmas parties, Halloween, etc. It housed a lot of colorful days of our lives. A lot of people came…some gone. But what was important was the ‘us’—the friendship. It stayed.

And so the group which constantly goes there is referred to as gamban people-gamban peeps. Hehe.

Appendix-A-Exit.

***************************************************************************************************************

And that was just an introduction. Have you noticed the enumerating tone in there? Well, just believe me when I say there are a looooot of Gamban-stories. It is just so impossible to compress them in one paragraph. And so the real ‘High-Heeled Sunday’ starts here.

Miggy is the first bay of the Gamban peeps, the first official male member—no question about that. And yesterday was his christening in Immaculate Conception, We were all excited as his was the first in our group. We just can’t believe we started dealing with a baby already.

Okay, try this. >> My friend’s friend which happened to be my friend as well because uhmm, again he is my friend’s friend… ??<< Got that? And so this friend’s friend asked a favor. It was a long story but it just boiled to the point that he asked me to meet him so I can be a delivery girl. I thought it wouldn’t burden much to meet him. I could just take a 10-minute jeepney ride from Tayuman LRT station to Immaculate Conception. And so it was settled.

I exerted effort to dress up. I wore a high-heeled sandal as everyone I know was waiting for me to use. Finally, I did. I realized my legs were longer and it fit my figure perfectly enough. I left home happy. And 5 minutes later, I swore I won’t wear those sandals ever again. Haha!

Reasons:

1. I couldn’t walk the way I’ve been doing it for the past 22 years. I was forced to walk properly-if you call that properly.

2. I rode a pedicab and the heels got stuck between the metal-rails.

3. I could have died out there wearing those.

And so, I was at the meeting place exactly at 10:30 AM only to find out that the friend’s friend met with my friend already. And the purpose of my being there was obviously unnecessary without me knowing it. Thanks to my friend’s friend for leaving a message in YM. I got it. And thanks to my boyfriend, he was over thirty minutes late. I was not really furious then. Anyway, I was sitting comfortably inside Jollibee. And the church would just be 10 minutes away. I even sent him a message saying

Ayan a, kapag ikaw ang late hindi mainit ang ulo ko kahit over 30 minutes late ka na’. (See, even if you are over thirty minutes, I am not at all angry.)

It was like implying ‘don’t get angry when I am late next time’. Haha.

We then headed to the 10-minute away Immaculate Conception Tayuman. There was a christening there but I didn’t recognize the people. Not one. No anything at all. Later on, I was catching my breathe inside a jeepney for a 40-minute trip to Immaculate Conception Malabon.

And I was really really furious.

LESSONS LEARNED:

1. Read the invitation.

I can’t believe I didn’t read it carefully. I was focused on Miggy’s picture. I showed the invitation to my mom, to my sister, to my aunt, etc. because I was proud of it. It was a fantastic invitation. My friend made it well. And six invitations were actually with me because I had to give them to the rest of the Gamban peeps who couldn’t personally get theirs. I can’t believe I didn’t read the texts. =(

2. Don’t wear high heeled sandals.

‘ Honey, I would love you more if we’d slow down’, I told my boyfriend when we were walking>>>>when I was still not furious.

3. Never ever wait for boys.

A must. Hmpf.

<<

And I was right on time….for the photo shoot. Haha!
